Welcome to Buffalo Embossing.
I am Dan Tabish, the owner of Buffalo Embossing, and I specialize
in fine art embossing, tint, pigment and metallic foil stamping.
I hope to provide individuals and collectors handmade art prints
that are labor intensive in their production and unique in their
three dimensional final result.
Artist's
statement: why do I do this?
I
have operated a custom and commercial letterpress and offset printing
shop in Missoula, Montana since 1973. Since the arrival of the personal
computer, the term "printer" has lost its association
with a trade or craft, and now connotes a stylish bone colored box
that sits on a desk beside a keyboard or monitor.
In
1980 I had to make the choice
to either enter the new technology foot race or do the less obvious
and go in the opposite direction. I have been fortunate to learn
my craft from the "old timers" who have been generous
and patient with me. I consider myself foremost a technician; the
process and the final image constitute the art. I am committed to
stamp, scratch my head, add heat, stamp again, stand back, add pressure,
and stamp again. Counting the sheets I hand feed onto the press
bed, I know I am still a printer or print maker and not a laser,
bubble or ink jet. I sincerely hope you enjoy this process and its
result. I will continue to add to this portfolio and update this
site as new works become available.
Commissioned
work is welcome.
